COMPOSER
MORGAN BURROUGHS: BIOGRAPHY
Morgan, 21, is a London based composer, born in Essex. He discovered a passion for music when he started playing the piano at 10 years old and in time, as a way of further expressing his personal creativity, moved towards composing too. He studied composition at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, graduating in 2021, and has collaborated with various individuals and ensembles.
His work has been described as 'chilling, thrilling and entrancing' by Stephen Fry, saying 'there's dissipation, despair, erotic shivering and fabulous tension in the air'. An adventurous harmonic language, intense lyricism and a colourful sense of timbre all characterise his music. Often writing for smaller ensembles, he is equally adapt composing for larger forces too.
The world of contemporary music is extraordinarily varied. For Morgan, embracing all aspects of this and taking hints of inspiration from a variety of sources, is key to creating a unique and personal sound-world.
